TranSol
acts as claims handling
agents for a number of leading
marine underwriters.
|
By
definition, transit insurance
involves goods that are
moving from one location
to another, whether the
product is household effects
or commercial cargo.
The
insurer may not have a
local representation in
the country of destination,
in which case they appoint
companies such as ours
as their local 'agents'
to handle claims.
TranSol
is unique in the New Zealand
market in that it is the
only company set up specifically
to handle marine insurance
claims on behalf of overseas
insurers.
The
most important point to
keep in mind through the
claim process is that
although TranSol are agents
for your insurer, we are
not actually your insurer.
We
have no authority to settle
claims, make payments,
or accept claims on your
insurer's behalf. Our
role is to collate the
claim information and
pass this back to your
insurer.

Any
decision on policy response
to your claim must come from
your insurer. To
assist with the assessment of
your claim, we may need to use
the services of a surveyor.
Surveyors
are specialists in inspecting
damaged cargo. A surveyor is
an independent contractor who
may work for a number of insurance
companies. The surveyor will
provide an independent inspection
of the damaged cargo and provide
a survey report for your insurer.
If we appoint a surveyor, the
report that they provide will
form part of the claim documentation
we send back to your insurer.
Again, the surveyor has no authority
to make payments or authorise
settlements in any way - they
are simply 'eyes and ears' for
your insurer.
If a surveyor is not involved,
the onus is on you as the claimant
to present a documented claim
to your insurer. This includes
itemising the damaged/missing
goods, obtaining repair quotes
where appropriate, and providing
the necessary shipping documentation.
We are able to assist you through
this process.
TranSol's role is to make the
claim process as simple and
as quick as possible. We undertake
to provide you with all the
assistance and information necessary
to complete the claim process.
We will follow through with
your insurer to ensure that
your claim is finalised promptly.
We also undertake to keep you
updated with the progress of
your claim on a regular basis.
We are available for any queries
you may have.
The
timeframe for settlement of
your claim depends on your insurer,
but a period of 2-8 weeks after
submission of all documents
should be expected.
